Usually, older style CCTV cabling does not suit new Ip Camera technology. Generally upgrading to UTP Data cabling is the best way to go. It’s the same type of cabling we now run all our computer networks on. This cabling will be applicable for a long time to come and will be reusable for future systems.
Yes, most CCTV systems offer remote access through smartphones or computers. Ensure the system supports mobile apps or browser access.
Both options are possible. DIY installation is feasible for some, but professional installation ensures optimal placement and configuration with an overall professional finish
Regularly clean camera lenses, check for debris, and ensure the surrounding area is clear. Most NVRs will have a maintenance tab or some reference to upgrades. Check for available upgrades about every year. Keep the software up to date.
The number of cameras depends on the size and layout of the property. Generally, key areas such as entry points, Car parks, and high-risk areas should be covered.
Storage needs depend on factors like the number of cameras, recording resolution, and your desired time frames. Most NVRs are supplied with a hard drive that suits several weeks recording under common conditions. This will automatically overwrite itself in a continuous loop. Recording space is infinitely variable and your installer can advise and adjust to your requirements.

CCTV stands for Closed-Circuit Television. It involves a system of cameras, monitors, and recording devices that work together to capture, transmit, and store video footage in a closed environment, typically for surveillance and security purposes.
Most cameras work well in various lighting conditions. The more natural, even light the better. Avoid shaded areas backed with very bright areas if possible. Modern cameras have settings to assist with strong backlight however these can sometime be avoided with more careful placement. Most will have IR LEDs for night vision which is really quite good these days.
If your NVR loses power, it will stop running. Images up to that time will be saved. A good option is a backup power solutions like uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). This will keep your NVR running for a set period depending on the size of the batteries in that system. Hopefully in that period the power is restored, or at least you have good images of the guys that turned your power off at the meter board thinking that would protect them.
Nearly all modern cameras are weather proof. Dome or Turret style are super common now and can handle all areas. Sometimes in direct weather bullet style can prevent rain affecting the lens. Bullets usually also have a wider variety of optical zoom availability for distant images. Your installer will know the correct cameras for your purpose.
